Shaw Bros. Trailers - Downloadable

David Chiang & Ti Lung

(No longer available) These are newly edited trailers for the following classic SB films: The Lotus lamp, Angel With the Iron Fists, Crazy Shaolin Disciples, The Deadly Duo, and Spirit Of The Sword. I like it when the DVDs contain the original theatrical trailers, however the few that I've seen are better viewed after the movie as they give away a bit too much. The new trailers, then, serve their intended purpose; to get you excited about the upcoming dvd. Click on the title link to get to the trailer page.

I also happened upon a great article on the Shaw films in this month's ArtForum, Made in Hong Kong: The Films of Shaw Brothers Studio by Geoffrey O'Brien. Great stuff.

If you're into collecting trailers, then I suggest Dave's Trailer Page. If you only need to watch them, then quicktime.com will do the trick.
I love trailers. Sometimes they give you all you need out of a cinematic experience in less than 2 minutes. The first trailer I saw for Pearl Harbor is my favorite. Seriously had me teary eyed, especially seeing those planes fly by that baseball field. I had and have absolutely no interest in ever seeing that movie, though. Everything I needed was in the trailer. Maybe that makes it a bad trailer? Or maybe calling a movie Pearl Harbor is a bad idea if you're really spending 2 hours on Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett. Having a love triangle take place during Pearl harbor is one thing, but having Pearl Harbor take place during a love triangle just won't do it for me.

My DVD collection

http://www.intervocative.com/DVDCollection.aspx/Edshugeo

359 commercial DVDs. Which means these have not been downloaded off the internet nor (with the exception of one) are they pressed bootlegs. I plan on making a separate list of DVD-Rs and unauthorized DVDs. Those titles are not allowed on the DVD Profiler site. I also need to catalog my VCDs (both legit and not) and CDs (same).

Perhaps there's no point to any of this save to show off. Whatever.

More on this later....

Posing with my new 18 dollar jacket

new_jacket1
Jana asked me why I refer to myself as a "part-time narcissist" (on my home page). Well, because, occasionally I am prone to odd behavior like this, which I then go on to photograph.
new_jacket2
Initially meant to show off my new $18.00 (from Amazing Savings/Odd Job) leather jacket, I couldn't help but pick up my katana for some impromptu, amateur swordplay.

The blade isn't sharpened, but if I wack you with it, it'll sting like a muthafucka.
new_jacket4
I do like a good bargain. The fact that it's a ladies jacket doesn't bother me in the least.

One day I'll learn to pose for pictures without looking like a psycho. On that day I will ignore what I have learned.

LazyMuthaFucka

Are breaking up. Or going on temporary hiatus.

LMF is my favorite Cantonese Garage Band/Hip-Hop group.
Okay. They're the only Cantonese Garage Band/Hip Hop group I'm familiar with, but they do kick ass. Been a while since I heard anything from them so the news isn't like a big shock to me.

The last thing I heard from them; Crazy Children wasn't all that great, but the EP did come with a little robot figure, so it wasn't a total loss.

Only recently discovered their website (click on the title link above). I'll have to get their last release the next time I buy DVDs and stuff in Chinatown, NYC.

Also noticed a couple of things in their discography that I should get; like Videophile, which I guess is a video collection. A couple of their EPs came with VCDs of music videos, and they released a VCD of a live performance as well. I assume there's some newer stuff on this.

The discography doesn't mention a collaboration with Paul Wong on one of his albums which included a music video VCD.

Anyway, check them out if you use a file sharing client of some sort. I could be wrong, but I don't think the music downloading services like iTunes, or MusicMatch, are very international like the original Napster was in it's selections. iTunes does have sites in Japanese and a few other languages, but navigating them is a bit of a hassle if you don't speak those languages.
I should probably download the software first, before criticising them. More on this later...

If there's a Chinatown near you you can get their CDs there as well as at a couple of online shops if you don't. Be warned, though, that these releases are pretty short, for the most part. They clock in at around 25-30 minutes. I think there is an exception, but I don't remember what it is. I've made a CD-R, compiling the better tracks for my trip to and from work and where-ever else.
