Here's episode one of the 1970's
Japanese Spiderman series that
I've mentioned before.
This one has occasionally jokey English subtitles that, while not funny, doesn't interrupt the fun of what you're seeing. If I'm doing this right, you'll be able to play it from this post.
If not, click on the title above to go to the youtube.com page that hosts it.
Thanks to Kaiju Shakedown.January 18th, 2008 - The original video was deleted, so I've instead embedded the opening credits above.Labels: Awesome, comics, dead links, funny-ass shit, japanese, kung fu, tv, youtube

Song Of The Week: The Big Picture
Continuing my quest to write at least one song a week this year with song #4, not including a hip-hop-ish verse written (but not posted) last week as an inside joke about a co-worker.
A friend of mine wanted me to try my hand at a children's song of some sort for a
project he's working on. I accepted the challenge, but haven't yet produced anything. Elements of this song started out based on ideas swirling around my head about the virtues and rewards of hard work, but turned into something else, sorta.
Another rough recording; guitar, vocal, effect, and coughing.
January 18th, 2008 - I still haven't fixed the hamster effect that occurs on the streaming versions of many of my songs on that site. The download versions are fine, though. They may have other issues but aren't sped up.Lyrics:

Now Yer Talkin' (WOR Podcasts)
Radio mostly sucks and I have little use for it. I do have one my ex-girlfriend recently gave me that's crank-recharge-able that accesses shortwave frequencies in addition to AM/FM and has a flashlight. I think it's pretty cool. The shortwave stuff anyway, and the flashlight has come in handy in a coupl'a situations.
But current music stations are crap and most of the talk shows even more so.
There are exceptions.
Radio Paradise is a nice mix of contemporary-ish music styles that I access through
WinAmp.com.
For talk there's no other show than
Lionel.
None. Not on the right. Not on the left. Apparently, common sense
isn't too much to ask for. He gets played locally through
WOR from 11pm to 1am. The show is actually three hours. For some reason the station joins him in the second. The full three hours is then broadcast the next day from 6pm-9pm as a re-run. I often listen to the show via my computer,
streaming off their site.
I recently found that WOR is now
podcasting, that is, taking their shows and
providing them as mp3 downloads. Great news for me. Even better, the full three hour show is being made available. Bad news? The shows are about a week old (older if they're re-runs), so they're not up to date. Good news? Commercial free.
Now I have to learn how to subscribe to one of these things. I downloaded the January 16th (a re-run of an earlier) show in three segments and uploaded them to my
PSP. I heard the last hour last week (me and a friend at work call this the "
monkey brain" episode), but the first hour definitely helps put the whole show in perspective.
I didn't catch most of last weeks shows, so I better get to downloading...
January 17th, 2008 - Lionel's no longer on WOR, last time I heard. I stopped listening a while back. Don't remember how long ago, but it might've been sometime after I heard him (seem to) entertain some of that "truther" non-sense. He might be on Air America now. I dunno if the show is still downloadable. I don't remember what the monkey brain thing refers to exactly (a callers comments).
Haven't listened to Radio Paradise in a while either but they are still there..

99 cent Google Videos
I finally found some decent content at a decent price. Episodes of
Charlie Rose at
99 cents. I bought a 1995 interview with
Thomas Sowell. Even though the
show also had
Martha Stewart, it's a good price for a show about
55 minutes long.
The bad news? It can only be played on the
Google Video Player. In and of itself, this would be bad because I can't put it on my
PSP and watch it away from my computer. It gets worse however. The player seems to hog the CPU (upwards of 60%), and as a result is prone to freezing up, especially if you want to fast forward or move the screen. This meant I had to watch a great deal more of Martha Stewart than I've ever intended.
This also could mean no more purchases from the
Google Video Store for the time being. Oh, well. It's not like I can't find stuff to download.

Google Video for your PSP (or iPod If You're A Pussy)
This is interesting. Some
Google videos can now be downloaded. Those that are copy-protected can only be played on a computer, either streamed off the site, or with the
Google video player (I'm sure that can be circumvented). Everything else can be downloaded in either
PSP or
iPod format. I haven't tried this yet, but I suspect the mp4 videos have to be renamed to 5 random numbers to be played on the PSP. The first one I'll show to my co-workers will be this
German dude with the strong pimp hand.
Just kidding about iPod pussies. Whatever floats your boat.
There's also a video store which I've just noticed. Not crazy about the prices, especially for stuff that isn't remotely DVD quality, so it's not likely I'll be buying much from them, though that could change, since uploaders can set their own price for content (which I noticed when I put up
Black Jesus and Baby Buddha). This ought to be an interesting development.

5, not 7 tins of Altoids
Only
5 tins on Saturday. Don't know why I thought I had
7. I just discovered an unopened two-pack (I
know I only bought
4), which leaves
3 tins for Sunday instead of one. Hurrah!!!
