New Orleans 2003

Monday, November 3rd - And Pictures

Last day before heading back home. Got up late in the morning, took the free hotel shuttle to the airport, and from there took the city bus to downtown New Orleans. About a buck-fitty, I think. Once there, I headed towards the free ferry to Old Algiers, but I started out waiting on line for one of the riverboats not knowing any better. Eventually I figured it out and was on my way. Old Algiers is kinda rural looking in a way and very peaceful, or so it seems to me. took a stroll down the Jazz Walk Of fame, which towards the end, gave a view of the warehouses for Mardi Gras World, where a number of the floats are made, both for the celebration itself and also for a theme area nearby (which I didn't visit) which is open year-round, I believe. I wandered around a bit, taking in the scenery and stuff. Stopped in a local convenience store for a bite to eat and drink and started back whence I came. Ferried back to Canal, walked through various streets snapping away cuz I had plenty of space on my memory card, while working my way back to the bus stop. At some point I realized I was lost, which wasn't good. the last bus out was at 6:30pm (or something like that), and if I didn't catch it, I'd be right screwed. I had my map with me, so I worked it out and got back with maybe 20 minutes to spare. Bussed back to the airport, shuttled to the Hotel. Dinner at McDonalds. Back to my room to prepare for tomorrows flight.
